Empires: Dawn of the Modern World

Post by smallfish »

Anybody here played this ole gem, particularly with the Scenario Editor?

Loads of fun turning WW1 German Big Berthas into nuclear artillery in this one, or giving American WWII 75mm pack howitzers absurd firing ranges and damage output. Wish you could do that in EE2.

Why you can't do that in EE2? Just modify the unit ranges as you like, and ruin the balance of the game.

In my opinion not too-crazy firing ranges in EE2 actually keep this game enjoyable for so many years. If it was all about the ranges, it would be nothing else than artillery attacks in higher epochs. Thanks to the short ranges of most units, it's way better.

But can you turn an artillery cannon from any epoch into Nuclear Artillery?

Can EE2UP Team make Nuclear Artillery for a Xmas Overpowered Season Update or something?

I find that Balance isn't very fun at all... then again, I play E15 vs E6/7/8 matches in EE2 these days. Should try E12 again sometime...

Unofficial Patch doesn't change the original game balance as it's main rule. There were some little tweaks in the past, but proposing nuclear artillery is not serious, as we have an active multiplayer community and balance and keeping everything unchanged is very important. If you're interested in modding you can create such things for your own installation of EE2. All that you would need to do is editing the .ddf files in zips/db_155.zip.

One thing that prevents me from playing Art of Supremacy atm is the skull icons that denote the number of kills your unit/s make to become Heroes. Vanilla doesn't have that, hence why I'm sticking to it. I hope UP Team can change that in future (replace the skull icons with something else).

What's wrong with the skull icons?

If it's some phobia, I can guide you how to charge it, but such changes requested by 1 player in 12 years won't be added to the game.

well, I have learned in recent years that skulls bring bad luck just by looking at them, and looking at them is the reason for my current predicament. But enough of that...

How do you change the skull icons in EE2:AoS? What tools do I need? Please instruct me, Dr.MonaLisa!

The easy workaround would be pasting two new files to the:
EE2 Installation Folder / zips_ee2x

The files can be:
- icon_unitinfo_kills.tga
- enh_icon_unitinfo_kills.tga

or:
- icon_unitinfo_kills.dds
- enh_icon_unitinfo_kills.dds

When these files are present in your zips_ee2x folder, the game will read them in priority, so the new icon will be used instead of the original one. It should also persist across unofficial patch updates, as I'm not adding/deleting these files.

So just have two new files like this:

You might need to create (or download) a correct .tga file of size 32x32, or 64x64. The "enh_" file is used when you have the Enhanced version of UP1.6 unlocked: https://ee2.eu/patch/enhanced/

ok I know this may seem much... but could you give me a clean, no skulls example of the .tga/.dds file that I can download and use right away? I'm kinda lazy to make my own atm :D

No, if I'll do everything for you, then you'll be requesting more modding related stuff for your needs without putting any effort.
So this is a task for you, use google and find a small .tga file to rename and paste in that folder.
If you don't care what the icon is, you can even copy the existing zips\GameSpy_logo.tga file from EE2 folder.
