Territory Limits and Unit Edit

Post by dogusl »

Hello,
First of all, As we discussed in DC with Dr.Monalisa, I could not changed territory building limits. I have changed the values in EE2X_db and also in db.rar but in game, limits did not changed.
Secondly I want to change units stats, are there any modding/ editor program to edit?

For modding, you edit everything in Notepad++, and opening .zip files using WinRar (most reliable in my opinion).

About the territory.ddf: viewtopic.php?p=19551#p19551

It's the same file for EE2 and EE2: AOS in folder "zips", unpacked.

Keep in mind that all edits in db_155.zip will be lost after the Minor Update of UP1.5. If you're creating a mod for yourself, it's better to use: https://ee2.eu/patch/developers/ (but it lacks in many normal 1.5 features).

So it's good to save in notepad all changes that you made to files, and re-apply them to db_155.zip after updates. You can't overwrite the entire db_155.zip, because you'll lose fixes added by the update :/

Some edits to db.zip or EE2X_db.zip won't be visible in game, if the file structure for this file was changed in UP1.5, and is redirected to db_155.zip. So the patch keeps the original db.zip to support all game languages (I didn't have access to all language versions in the past, and the patch couldn't be English-only). That's why UP1.5 uses many files redirections, but it makes modding harder (for me).

I have been working with Notepad ++ for years. It is the best program so far to modify EE2 files. In this respect also for units ddfs.
List of tutorials, useful threads and utilities (look here before posting): Here

Notepad++ is very good, because it doesn't add any extra characters that could potentially break files and cause game to crash. It's a really awesome software, not only for EE2 modding, but any text operations.

For example, if you open the game .csv files with Microsoft Excel... then you have guaranteed crashes.

I could not change units stat. There are many different values between ddf file and in game stats.

In game, battleship has 11 range and 12 los but in battleship.ddf file its not. Why?

Ranges are defined in... techtreenod5 or something like this file.

It's confusing, they made it in many different places.
