RPS not working correctly

Post by jbp »

Hey guys.

I've noticed, while doing some tests for some tweaks I want to do (I want to make the stat difference between early and later units more pronounced), that heavy infantry doesn't have a bonus when attacking light artillery. In fact, it has a small malus. I tested with man at arms vs ballista, and machine gunner vs field artillery. Same thing with heavy mounted vs heavy artillery, they cause less than default damage.

I also tested separately with siege gun vs machine gun tank and gun tank, and the siege gun actually made more damage to the machine gun tank (the supposed counter) than to the gun tank (light mounted).

I use unnoficial patch, latest version. Does that change the RPS rules?

Unofficial Patch doesn't change RPS, however it should.
The reason of it is: There are many players who like the current RPS, who are used to it on Multiplayer, etc. Changing it would make people dislike the patch, that's why I decided to keep the orginal RPS, which is... not so perfect.
You can modify the RPS yourself, it's in file: zips\db_150.zip\db\Simulation\dbcomba5.csv (for EE2) and zips_ee2x\ee2x_db_150.zip.... (EE2: AOS).

Thanks, I'll check it out. Modding is somehow very addictive.

It's strange though, that in-game info is contradicted by the actual game balance.

The unofficial patch is great btw.

Thank you, I'm happy that you like it.

Remember that game balance also depends on selected game pace. For example with fast pace all units get damaged much faster.

I have another question. I have modded the upgrade_unittype5 file successfully, but changes aren't showing up in-game. Is there some other file I've missed?

First of all - what type of changes? Can you give an example? Remeber that this file is in ee2x_db_150.zip if you're modding on Ee2 aos.

I changed the hitpoints of bowmen, just as a test. And yeah, I modified AoS.

Should work then. Also check .ddf files from db.zip/db/Units. Sometimes there are unit upgrades there.

No luck.

I unzipped the db file, tweaked a few things to test whether they'd work, and rezipped the changed version, but the game doesn't seem to read the changes.

Make a test: Change costs of Sniper unit in upgrade_unittype5.csv (set it to cost 9999 food or something) and see if game reads it.
