Modding question

Post by GeneralSturnn »

How do I mod units? because I was wanting to try and make sure Musketeers/Regulars/Riflemen/Assault Riflemen are strong and discourage melee units from attacking, same with Machinegunners/Minigunners and Mortars/Incendiary mortars.

also wanted to give Tanks more health along with HERCS

well thats easy. but keep copy your ee2 game folder to anywhere to make such tests. Else you wont be able to play with others. The file you look for is in C:\Program Files\Sierra\Empire Earth II\zips\db(\db)\techtree\upgrade_unittypes.csv. there you can change what you like. Even the attack range Image. Ill show you some examples but you shall use for csv files the editor not excel. its more better and easier. A tip.You can orientate on the epoch. I always count from there. Thats usefull too.
Well with this you can make much funny things, but one mistake and EE2 will crash until you fixed the problem. Its better to loose all then make let ee2 not work^^. Here now some funny pictures with the title.
Empire Earth II,youre funniest mods

Because you're editing the wrong file.
You have to edit:
(Ger)TheGrouch wrote:C:\Program Files\Sierra\Empire Earth II\zips\db(\db)\techtree\upgrade_unittypes.csv
And I think you're editing:
Sierra\Empire Earth II\zips_ee2x\EE2X_db.zip\TechTree\upgrade_unittypes_EE2X.csv

It's not the same.
EE2 AOS is just an expansion pack, and sometimes you have to edit the files from main version of EE2 to apply the changes.

I only play with EE2 AOS though, and I just got it, turns out that the file I need to edit is in zips_eex2

I've modified games before, modifying the core values of the first game rarely if ever effect it's expansion, but some games I am new to modding.

But I have been modifying games for the past 10 years, unfortunately SOME of them are hardcoded(like the first Empire Earth)...

EDIT: There we go, no longer is bringing a sword to a gunfight recommended, Image I just wish flags for buildings wasn't hardcoded...

Did you find any file with "flags" in it? If yes, then what file was that?

It's hard to find, but you can try to edit EE2X.exe file.
To do this, download HXD: http://mh-nexus.de/en/downloads.php?product=HxD
(I recommend to download Portable version, so you don't need to install it).
Then start HXD.exe, and open EE2X.exe file (File -> Open).
Then click Ctrl+F to search, and type: "dbflag", and F3 to go to the next result.
You should see something like this:

I know it might be hard to understand, but maybe you will find something that tells about flags number...

Also remember, that you can add any effect to a unit/building, if you're scripting a scenario. Maybe you would like to try it?
There is EE2 SCRIPTING.doc created by Developers in 2005, you can find it in Sierra\Empire Earth II\Scripting Docs folder.
The problem is everything you do, will work for only one scenario, it won't change anything in game files.
