My son and I have been playing EE2 over Multiplayer LAN.
I would say about 30% of the time the game drops.
Sometimes it drops out and will reconnect before 60 seconds are up. However, it seems like it will timeout and quit the game.
1) Any idea what is causing this? The host is a new desktop with alot of CPU and memory. The other computer is a laptop that is a little aged, but does not looked taxed for CPU and memory when running.
2) Any tricks to reconnect?

Re: Multiplayer LAN drops after 20 to 30 minutes
Are you connected to the same router at home? Do you use some external LAN programs, or you simply connect by the LAN option in game?
1. I would try to use the new Multiplayer Lobby. You can create accounts, log in, and host/join a game there. The Lobby has the NAT, and some features which help to keep/resume connection. It should not affect the ping, it should be the same as in the LAN game, because your router will find a "faster" way to connect each other.
2. EE2 on Unofficial ver. 1.5 auto-saves game every 5 minutes. You can easily load it (follow the instruction in this topic: http://forum.ee2.eu/t1646-how-to-load-a-multiplayer-saved-game-on-ee2 ).
3. You should detect which computer loses connection. Start commandline on both computers ( http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chusedos.htm ), and type:
It should be showing something like:

Code: Select all
ping 8.8.8.8 -n 9999999
When you lose connection, it will show:Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=63ms TTL=46
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=69ms TTL=46
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=65ms TTL=46
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=72ms TTL=46
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=70ms TTL=46
So check the commandline window on both computers, and see which one was disconnected from the Internet. When you detect it, we can try to find some solutionRequest timed out.

Re: Multiplayer LAN drops after 20 to 30 minutes
Perfect!
We are playing on the same LAN on the same Wireless router...
I might start tonight with a combination of 3 for troubleshooting and 2 for coming back into the game.
Great work on all of this!
